Pregnancy Hacks Every Expecting Mom Should Know

If you are pregnant or working towards getting pregnant, then you most certainly need to start getting accustomed to these pregnancy hacks. Every expecting mother should know certain pregnancy hacks to see her through the interesting 9 months of her life before her baby arrives.

The period of pregnancy in a women’s life can be both exciting and overwhelming. The excitement of welcoming a whole human into the world can spread real quick. However, in all honesty, it also comes with a lot of discomforts.

Pregnancy is the best thing that happens to any couple after marriage.  It is what brings the completion to the full dictionary definition of FAMILY. Regardless of these facts, pregnancy comes with its own changes (physically, mentally, sociologically, etc.), it has its challenges, mood swings, a new character, and attitude formation, new likes and dislikes, etc. One may almost begin to hate herself or her spouse.

An overview of pregnancy

Pregnancy calls for a lot of responsibilities. Be ready for late-night wakes (this I mean for both couple) and my dear fellow couples, be ready to bear with one another. What started as a blessing, that news that brought great joy to you two should not be the foundation of strife and misunderstanding amongst yourself.

It is no news that pregnancy only lasts for a while. Basically, it lasts for a period of about 40 weeks or over a period of 9 months. This should be measured from the last menstrual period to the time of delivery. Health care providers refer to three segments during the pregnancy period called TRIMESTERS. The major events in each of the trimester are described below.

First Trimester  (Week 1 to Week 12)

If you are a first-time mom, then you are certainly in need of some pregnancy hacks. The events that lead to pregnancy begin with conception, in which a sperm penetrates an egg. The fertilized egg (called a zygote) then travels through the woman’s fallopian tube to the uterus, where it implants itself in the uterine wall. The zygote is made up of a cluster of cells that later form the fetus and the placenta. The placenta connects the mother to the fetus and provides nutrients and oxygen to the fetus.

Second Trimester (Week 13 to Week 28)

  • Between 18 and 20 weeks, the typical timing for an ultrasound to look for birth defects, you can often find out the sex of your baby.
  • At 20 weeks, a woman may begin to feel movement.
  • At 24 weeks, footprints and fingerprints have formed and the fetus sleeps and wakes regularly.
  • According to research from the NICHD Neonatal Research Network, the survival rate for babies born at 28 weeks was 92%, although those born at this time will likely still experience serious health complications, including respiratory and neurologic problems.

Third Trimester (Week 29 to Week 40)

  • At 32 weeks, the bones are soft and yet almost fully formed, and the eyes can open and close.
  • Infants born before 37 weeks are considered preterm. These children are at increased risk for problems such as developmental delays, vision and hearing problems, and cerebral palsy. Infants born between 34 and 36 weeks of pregnancy are considered to be “late preterm.”
  • Infants born in the 37th and 38th weeks of pregnancy—previously considered term—are now considered “early term.” These infants face more health risks than infants who are born at 39 weeks or later, which is now considered full term.
  • Infants born at 39 or 40 weeks of pregnancy are considered full term. Full-term infants have better health outcomes than do infants born earlier or, in some cases, later than this period. Therefore, if there is no medical reason to deliver earlier, it is best to deliver at or after 39 weeks to give the infant’s lungs, brain, and liver time to fully develop.
  • Infants born at 41 weeks through 41 weeks and 6 days are considered late-term.
  • Infants who are born at 42 weeks and beyond are considered post-term.

That being said, here are some pregnancy hacks and need-to-knows about

Pregnancy Hacks for Expecting Moms

Stretch Marks

There are very few women who are able to escape this symptom. Most research and studies suggest their hereditary genes to be the lucky charm behind why those few women escape stretch marks after birth. You are either genetically exposed to them before or after being pregnant or you are not, either way, there’s nothing you can do about it.

Mood Swings

Be prepared! This is my advice for both of the couples. It usually is more in expecting moms who can easily infect her husband with it. It is like it is communicable. It is a very complex state of being. Dear expecting mom and husband, expect not just slices but loaves of anger, uncontrollable tears, and fear. Mr., she is not going crazy, Ma’am, you are very okay – you are but pregnant and an expecting mom. Learn to deal with this.

Forgetfulness

You will find yourself being a little bit forgetful, it is not peculiar to only you. It is for all expecting moms and it is called pregnancy amnesia. It is not a disorder but the expecting mom can be slightly absent-minded (baby brain) or a minor memory loss, either way, it is just for a short period of time.

Virginal Discharge

There is no need to be afraid nor do you have any cause to panic. This is neither miscarriage nor is the loss of your baby, it is just the body way to give out waste probably from you or the child. It is advisable to see the right doctor and seek medical attention if this discharge happens to be blood or bloodstained, too much thick nor any color that is not within the milkish range of colors. For example green.

Love Making

A good number of persons have a misconception that sexual intercourse during pregnancy might lead to miscarriage. However, this is untrue. In most cases, miscarriage occurs when the fetus isn’t developing normally. Most sex positions are allowed as long as you are comfortable. During pregnancy, it is advisable to experiment with your partner and find out what works.

Antenatal Classes

There is no reason at all to skip antenatal care when you are expecting. Here you meet doctors and nurses and pregnancy counselors who can professionally advise you on the way to do and go as an expecting mom.

Scents

Avoid perfumes and scents. It is very funny how the lady who pressurizes as a husband to put on perfume and smell nice goes wild at the perceiving of these sprays when she is expecting. The biology of pregnancy women, 75% – 90% of them gets irritated by perceiving this in their environment. So dear expecting mom, do well to do away with any smell that is irritable to you during your pregnancy period.

Consumption

Keeps fruits close to you especially at night. There are some fruit more recommended than others. This is while you must not miss antenatal classes. Avoid excess caffeine (at most 300mg per day). It may be good for you but it is bad for the baby. Drink water well.

Exercise

Being pregnant does not mean you should not exercise anymore. It is a fact that some posture really hurt you but there are still some exercises that are required for a pregnant woman strolling, pacing, yoga, and swimming, etc. This is the time to listen to your body.

Clothing

Choose the right dresses for pregnancy can be a daunting task especially if it is your first time. Regardless, stick with clothes that make you feel comfortable and they are no need for tight garments. Avoid sweaty layers of clothes, get yourself pregnancy bras or stretchy sports bra, and wear pants that will allow your stomach to breathe. You can just get bra-back extenders if you want to continue using the old bras of yours. The breasts do get surprisingly hot during pregnancy so the suggestion is keeping you bra tied up in the freezer.

Medication

There are medications required for this period of your life. Visit an orthopedic clinic and see an orthopedic doctor. And be sure to take the medication as instructed. Your pillow is now your best medicine and companion.

Morning sickness

Aside from the labor time, is quite possibly the worst part of pregnancy. It strikes about 75 percent of all pregnant women. Symptoms of morning sickness include headaches, excessive sleepiness, and of course feelings of nausea and sometimes vomiting.

Most women will start feeling the symptoms of morning sickness about a month after conception, and it will typically last until the twelfth to fourteenth week of pregnancy. Some women will experience morning sickness their entire pregnancy. Despite its name, morning sickness doesn’t happen only in the morning. Most women experience the symptoms of morning sickness all day long.

Drinking

Avoid drinking wine during pregnancy. Alcohol passes quickly from your bloodstream through the placenta and umbilical cord to your baby and this can harm your developing baby’s brain and organs.

Smoking

Smoking is terrible for you and your baby and even passive or secondhand smoke can be nearly as bad. Smokes contain chemicals that can make one feel dizzy and it is very harmful to the baby. You are NOT permitted to smoke or take in another’s smoke fumes. Smoking can lead to miscarriage, premature delivery, low birth weight, learning, or behavioral issues as your baby grows and sudden infant death syndrome, etc.

In our today’s society, it is alarming to see loving couples having issues because they do not understand how to carry each other when a baby is on the way. But we have to learn above that. Pregnancy came as a result of love shared, let that love that was ignited continue to beam and shine brighter. Pregnancy will not only teach you the difference between genders but also the difference between the single lady and the married and the married from the married and pregnant woman.

Remember, being pregnant is not forever. You just have to be patient now that it is the time for it. It won’t take long as all of those pleasures and off-limits foods, fun time, and activities will soon be available to you once again.
